When I started doing
drugs my life, as I knew it, came to a sudden halt
E.C.
When I
started doing drugs my life, as I knew it, came to a sudden halt. When I lost
things, such as my apartment and car, it felt as though I had lost everything.
The truth of the matter was that I lost everything that created a comfort zone
in the drug life. I have a loving and caring family who supported and
encouraged all of my efforts to lead a decent life. A family that I put through
more pain than any one person can imagine. My mom said "that's the chance you
take when you have children. You can never predict the future when you have a
baby." My parents told me that parenthood isn't all it's cracked up to be
because you have to be totally unselfish and put your child's need before all
of your own, but they still blamed themselves. My parents felt as though they
fell short. Since I was thirteen years old I spent most of my life living "fix"
to "fix." It was a horrible way to live life. Drugs robbed me of having a
chance of learning how wonderful life can be. You only see things through the
half-empty glass because you are always hurting inside. No one in my family
could deal with it because it was so painful to watch me. I didn't intend to
hurt anyone, but ended up hurting everyone that cared about me. I thought I
didn't have the courage to even try to stop. My dad found a place called
Narconon on the internet and I eventually broke down and decided that I needed
help. While going through the program I started all over and found out what
life was really about and what it has to offer. I finally realized that there
was actually a solution to my immediate problem - THERE IS LIFE AFTER DRUGS.
Life has good times and bad, happy and lonely, fulfilling and hurtful. There's
no such thing as a perfect life without pain. But that pain also teaches us how
good the good times really are. It teaches us to appreciate the things that we
take for granted. I learned to live without drugs. Many do it. Many fail. You
have to look at it as a fight for your life because that's what you are
fighting to get back. You have to know that you are in control of your life.
Being a heroin addict is not what I was destined to be. I just got sidetracked
along the way.
